Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of family functioning components in predicting suicidal ideation in students. Method: The present study was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the present study included all male and female students studying in the second year of high school in Tehran in the academic year 1397-1397 and 300 of them were selected by simple random sampling. Subjects were tested with research tools including Beck Suicide Thought Scale (BSSI), Family Function Assessment Questionnaire (FAD). Pearson correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data to investigate the relationship between variables and stepwise regression analysis was used to predict the variables. Results: The findings showed that there is a significant positive relationship between the overall unhealthy family functioning score and suicidal ideation in students (p <0.05), ie with an increase in unhealthy family functions that include, problem solving, communication, role Responsibilities include emotional integration, behavior control, and emotional responsiveness. Suicidal ideation increases in students. Conclusion: The type of family functioning can be effective in students' suicidal thinking and this shows the importance of systemic therapies and family therapy in the treatment plans of adolescents attempting suicide
