The Effect of Training Academic Motivation on The Optimism And Academic Hope in Students

Abstract

Background and Objectives: the present study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of academic motivation training on students’ academic optimism and academic hope. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research with a pretest–posttest design and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all tenth-grade male students in high schools of District 2 of Zahedan during the 2024–2025 academic year. From this population, 30 students were selected using purposive sampling and randomly assigned to an experimental group (15 students) and a control group (15 students). The students in the experimental group received twelve 60-minute sessions of academic motivation training based on Brier (2006), while the control group did not receive this training. Data were collected using the Academic Hope Questionnaire by Khormaei and Kamari (2017) and the Academic Optimism Questionnaire by Tschannen-Moran et al. (2013). Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) in SPSS‑27. Findings: The results of data analysis showed that academic motivation training significantly improved students’ academic optimism (F = 13.09, p < 0.05) and academic hope (F = 4.45, p < 0.05).
