Investigating the role of personality traits in anticipating stress coping styles in male students

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of personality traits in predicting stresscoping styles among male students in Isfahan Farhangian University. This research method is descriptive and correlational. The statistical population were all male students of Farhangian University of Isfahan province in school year 1394-1393, 120 of them were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. The data collected coping styles Parker and Endler (1961) and personality traits of NEO (Costa and McCrae) respectively. For data analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used. The results showed that there is a meaningful relationship between problem-oriented coping style and aggression, depression, collectivism, activity, beliefs, values, clarity, kindness and perseverance. As well as between the coping style of the excitement of the anxiety traits, depression, vulnerability, warmth, decisiveness, aesthetics, emotions, values, trust, clarity, companion, order, and perseverance show a significant relationship. Additionally, there is a meaningful relationship between the avoidant coping style with the anxiety, aggression, vulnerability, warmth, decisiveness, activity, aesthetics, emotions, beliefs, values, clarity, altruism, companionship, order, and perseverance.
