A content analysis of the relationship between images and text sixth grade elementary science textbook

Abstract

Introduction: This study analyzes the relationship between images and text content of the the empirical sciences of the sixth grade elementary school in the academic year of 2016-2017 in Iran.
Method: This descriptive study is content analysis. The statistical population of this study includes empirical images of the sixth grade in the academic year of 2016-2017. Sample size is equal to community size. The research tool was the form of content analysis between images and text, and qualitative analysis software tool was maxqda.
Findings: In reviewing the images of the experimental science of the sixth grade of the elementary school, it is seen that out of a total of 104 images in the entire book, 72 images were consistent with the text, and 32 other images were inconsistent with the written text, of which 15 were identified without emphasis, and 17 were shown with emphasis.
Conclusion: According to the findings obtained can be stated that the relationship between images with text, relative to the total picture, is that about 69% of the book's illustrations with text consistent, and less can create educational creativity in learning effective . Then, teachers should identify the main messages for students by identifying inconsistent images
